Cultivating the future means rediscovering our roots.
A Menendez Amerino project in partnership with the Municipal Government of São Gonçalo dos Campos (BA) to encourage local smallholder farmers to resume cultivating a tobacco variety historically tied to the municipality.
For decades, tobacco farming generated work and income for countless families in São Gonçalo and helped shape the economic and social fabric of Recôncavo Baiano. The project was born to reconnect that past with present-day possibilities, creating rural opportunities, diversifying smallholder income, and celebrating the knowledge embedded in the region's identity.
It was in São Gonçalo dos Campos, in 1977, that Menendez Amerino was born, from the union between the Menendez family's expertise and Mário Amerino Portugal's mastery of Bahian tobacco. It has been nearly five decades of learning from this land, its growers, and its leaves — and today part of that knowledge returns to the fields through technical guidance and grower support.
We believe a company integrated into its territory should do more than just use its resources: it must preserve and develop them. That is why we unite the company, the public sector, and local growers to transform agricultural heritage into development. Preserving a tradition is not looking to the past. It is creating the conditions for it to have a future.
Social Responsibility
Alongside its economic activity, the company values initiatives that generate social impact in the community where it operates. In this context, it supports local social programs focused on the protection, education, and development of children and adolescents in situations of social vulnerability, especially through the Associação Comunitária do Gravatá, in São Gonçalo dos Campos.
The Associação Comunitária do Gravatá works with children, adolescents, young people, and families from the Gravatá community and surrounding areas, promoting citizenship education, schooling, sports, culture, community participation, and the strengthening of family bonds. Its work seeks to broaden opportunities, reduce social inequalities, address risk situations, and contribute to the integral development of participants.
One of its main initiatives is the Segundo Lar Project, which serves children and adolescents during the after-school period and offers free activities such as tutoring, computer lessons, soccer, capoeira, karate, and jiu-jitsu. These activities encourage discipline, inclusion, protection, social interaction, and personal development, helping to reduce young people's exposure to vulnerable situations and strengthening their school attendance.
The association also organizes cultural activities, community events, family integration initiatives, educational talks, donation campaigns, workshops, and programs aimed at training young people and adults for income generation. Thus, the social project benefits not only the children served, but also their families and the local community more broadly.

Menendez Amerino believes that social responsibility also means opening paths for new generations. Through the Apprentice Program, we contribute to the training and integration of young people into the workforce, offering learning, professional experience, and contact with different areas of the company. An initiative that strengthens talent and expands opportunities in the community where we operate.

With the support of physiotherapy professionals and workplace exercise programs, we promote practices focused on prevention, ergonomics, and quality of life in the working environment, contributing to a healthier routine and to the appreciation of everyone who is part of Menendez Amerino.

Our care also encompasses emotional health. Menendez Amerino provides psychological support to its employees, creating a space for welcoming, guidance, and prevention. The initiative reinforces our commitment to a healthier working environment aligned with the new guidelines on attention to psychosocial factors and the integral health of workers.

Safety is also built through information, prevention, and participation. Through its Occupational Health and Safety area, Menendez Amerino promotes training, guidance, and ongoing actions aimed at accident prevention, risk identification, and the adoption of good practices in the professional environment.
Beyond complying with rules and procedures, we seek to strengthen a safety culture in which every collaborator understands their role in caring for themselves, for others, and for the working environment.
